The most romantic line ever!!!

I am an absolute sucker for romance. Total. It's very sad. And not just romance- I'm a general sap. I cry over the smallest things. Not in my life so much (thank heavens), but on telly, movies and books. Total sap.

I think some people call it sensitive, but it is honestly a physical reaction that cannot be ignored! I just tear up! My hubster laughs his arse off at me! If there is even the slightest hint of sappiness (ie: when the people on biggest loser are reunited with their families, and yes I'm serious) he glances over at me with a knowing grin and holds out a tissue and I tell him to shut-up and watch the TV while grabbing the tissue and dabbing. Then I sniffle and he looks at me again and says 'Oh baby is it sad???'

I can't help it!!!! It just HAPPENS!

Anyway, so one of the chick-flick-iest shows I love is Gilmore Girls. I know, please don't start, but there is something about that show that I just love! The conversation, intelligence, relationships and insanity just has me hooked.

So it's no surprise that one of my all-time favourite romantic lines is from that show. Perhaps the fact that I just watched the series finale after two glasses of wine has something to do with it but still! I swear it's a great line!

In the series finale, Luke and Lorelai are FINALLY reunited (I'm not going to go into it I promise), anyway they speak less than 15 words to each other and Luke says:

"I just like to see you happy."

Oh come on, please, don't tell me that isn't sweet???

I just like to see you happy.

What more could a girl ask for? Seriously? He wants to make her happy no matter what! Ah I LOVE it!

That kind of self-less adoration is what every girl dreams of when they think of having someone to love them! (Not in a stalker kinda way though, I must be clear on that.) And to sum it up in 7 words.... seriously... I have no words. Well four words, which is: I have no words.

I'm sure there are many other, much more romantic one-liners in the history of romantic one-liners so PLEASE I beg you impart your wisdom (or the line that makes you weak at the knees, or weak in your moral standing...) HERE! Tell me- what makes you faint? Sigh with your eyes raised to the heavens? Your heart flutter? Or completely stop beating? Weep with the sheer joyful sappiness of it all?

Feed my sappiness!

  1. I can't think of any brilliantly romantic one-liners, but I have to admit to being a hopeless sook too. I cry over television ads - stupid, manipulative ads for insurance and stuff. It's embarrassing! :)

  3. You are not alone in your Gilmore Girls infatuation! I have TWO copies of each series just because I'm petrified I will one day wear one out!

Good for sappy lines/passages I find are Julia Quinn romances. My favourite?

"Forget that everyone made mention of her eyes; at the very least one of them could have had the creativity to compare them to something other than the water or the sky.

Michael snorted with disgust. Anyone who took the time to really look at Francesca's eyes would have realized that they were quite their own colour.

As if the sky could even compare."

  5. There are so many lines that make me go weak in the knees. One that gets me every time is from The Mists of Avalon, a retelling of the Camelot tale based on the book by Marian Zimmer Bradely.

The scene has Lancelot and Guinevere confessing their love for each other, lamenting the fact that they cannot act on it. The exchange is as follows:

Guinevere: But I have sinned with you in my thoughts.

    Lancelot: Thoughts are not deeds.

Guinevere: But the Bishop says to think is to do.

Lancelot: My thoughts don't answer to the Bishop. If they did, I would burn in Hell a thousand years every time I see you walk past.

  9. Great post, dear! I remember GG from way back in the day, but haven't watched it since about the 3 season, I think. I must get back on that bandwagon. :)

I love that quote, too, btw, it is so lovely.

Since I am OBSESSED with the movie, Bright Star (it is the most beautiful, tragic romance I will ever see, I think), I'll supply my favourite romantic quote from the film.

John Keats (in a letter) to Fanny Brawne:
"I almost wish we were butterflies and lived but three summer days - three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain."

  10. Oh, and I thought I should add that I cry like a blubbering baby over everything. I watched the movie, Brothers, on the weekend and my eyes were all puffy by the end of it. I can't help myself. Books do it, too (oh, god, that one you recommended to me with the old man in heaven - yep, I've been a blubbering mess since I got about halfway through!)

  11. I've never watched Gilmore Girls, but I kind of want to just for that line. It makes the die-hard romantic in me swoon. :)

  12. @amber(writing ant) - ooh i love that quote! its beautiful! and im glad you enjoyed the book! i know its a very crying book but has a great concept. tuesdays with morrie will make you cry more! and for such compact novels (almost novella length i would think...) they truely capture the story so beautifully.

@sandy- i hadn't watched it either until a few months ago and now im obsessed, and once you've seen it, and get the relationship and history between those two characters... well if you are swooning now, that moment is just...romantic perfection (so i think anyways)

thanks for all the comments guys! :)
